The Art of Cleaning the Forgotten Spaces and When to Hire a House Cleaning Service Provider

Cleaning is a task that most people believe they can tackle. It is common sense really… or is it? The art of cleaning is lost on some or maybe it’s just forgotten. Some choose to hire professionals to handle their house cleaning service needs. If you want to take care of the cleaning yourself, here are a few cleaning tasks that seem to have fallen by the wayside.

Cleaning Your Walls

You may be thinking, “Who cleans their walls?” Once upon a time, everyone did. It was a typical and expecting cleaning chore. Cleaning the walls of the home not only keep the paint looking fresh, but helps keep the home smelling fresh. Overtime, walls absorb odors in the home and cause those smells to linger. Who wants the tuna from last week and the dog’s bath can add to the ambiance of your home?

Cleaning your walls might be a bit time consuming, but can be easier than you might expect. The best time to complete this task is when the weather is nice enough to open the windows in the home to help with drying.

Here is what you’ll need

  • Broom
  • Vacuum (with broom attachment)
    • If you do not have a vacuum with the attachment, a foam craft brush will do the trick.
  • Towel
  • Bucket with warm soapy water
  • Bucket with clean water
  • Lint free washcloth or sponge
  • Drop cloth

To start, remove anything hanging on the walls and use your broom to sweep the walls, corners, and molding. A great trick to really dust those walls is to wrap a clean towel around the broom end or grab a vacuum with a brush attachment. For chair rails or modeling, a foam craft brush can be used to dust the crevasses.

Once the wall’s surface is fully dusted, place a drop cloth on the ground to protect the floors from water spills and drips. Using the warm soapy water and the washcloth or sponge, scrub the walls. For the best results, ring out some of the water, but keep the sponge or cloth somewhat wet. After the wall has been thoroughly cleaned, use the warm clean water to wipe down the wall as well. Finally, let the wall dry. Repeat for each wall until clean, making sure to replace the water as needed.

If this task seems too big or time consuming to handle, trust it to a house cleaning professional. Alma’s Cleaning Services offers full service and fully customizable house cleaning services.

Cleaning the Air Vents and Ducts

Air vents are easy to miss when cleaning your home, but it can make a big impact. When your air conditioning unit kicks on and fills your home with warm or cool air, it also fills your home with the odors caught in your vents and ducts. We recommend having your complete central air conditioning unit cleaned and serviced yearly, but this is a great trick to help your home stay smelling great in the meanwhile. There are a few must have tools to doing the job.

Here is what you’ll need

  • New Filter
  • Vacuum (Renting a heavy duty vacuum will work best)
  • Brush (Like a toilet brush will work best, a stiff-bristle paintbrush or something similar)
  • Screwdriver (to remove the vent covers)
  • Paper Towels
  • Bucket of warm soapy water.
  • Spray bottle with a 1 to 1 vinegar to water solution or a mold remover (as needed)
  1. Turn off your air conditioner by turning off the power to the unit.
  2. Remove all vent covers from the floors, walls, etc.
  3. Remove the existing filter.
  4. Using the vacuum cleaner, remove as much of the dust from inside the ducts as possible. A heavy-duty vacuum with a long hose works best.
  5. Also, vacuum the just inside the vents and behind the filter.
  6. Using the warm soapy water, scrub the vent covers and the walls of the vents using the stiff brush and wipe dry.
  7. If any mold is present, use the vinegar solution/mold remover to clean just inside the vent opening and where the filter will be placed.
  8. Do not scrub the insides of the ducts as they may tear.
  9. Make sure to dry all areas thoroughly.
  10. Replace filter and vent covers

If this seems like too big of a task, why not hire a professional house cleaning service provider? Alma’s Clean Services would love to talk to you about your cleaning needs.

Cleaning Under Refrigerator Drawers

Keeping the refrigerator clean is something that most people remember to do, but there is an area of the frig that often goes uncleaned. That is, until the smell appears. When cleaning the refrigerator, ensure that all drawers are removed and not only are the drawers cleaned, but underneath them as well.

Here is what you’ll need

  • Towel
  • Bucket with warm soapy water
  • Bucket with clean water
  • Washcloth or sponge

Remove each drawer from the refrigerator and set aside. Using the washcloth/sponge and warm soapy water, clean the areas under the drawers (and on the sides) thoroughly. Use the clean water to clean the washcloth/sponge as needed. Clean each drawer (inside and out) thoroughly with the warm soapy water and washcloth/sponge as well. Dry all areas well. Standing water can cause mold to grow, so it is important to dry the areas.
